Alfvénic waves in the inhomogeneous solar atmosphere

چکیده

Abstract The solar atmosphere is known to be replete with magneto-hydrodynamic wave modes, and there has been significant investment in understanding how these waves propagate through the Sun’s deposit their energy into plasma. waves’ journey made interesting by vertical variation plasma quantities that define atmosphere. In addition this large-scale inhomogeneity, a wealth of fine-scale structure chromosphere corona brought light high-resolution observations over last couple decades. This represents inhomogeneity thought perpendicular local magnetic fields. implications form on propagation still being uncovered, but fundamentally change nature MHD modes. It also enables physics arise including resonances, turbulence instabilities. Here, we review some key insights influences Alfvénic atmosphere, discussing both inhomogeneities parallel field.

Slow magnetohydrodynamic waves in the solar atmosphere.

There is increasingly strong observational evidence that slow magnetoacoustic modes arise in the solar atmosphere, either as propagating or standing waves. Sunspots, coronal plumes and coronal loops all appear to support slow modes. Here we examine theoretically how the slow mode may be extracted from the magnetohydrodynamic equations, considering the special case of a vertical magnetic field i...

Alfvén waves in the lower solar atmosphere.

The flow of energy through the solar atmosphere and the heating of the Sun's outer regions are still not understood. Here, we report the detection of oscillatory phenomena associated with a large bright-point group that is 430,000 square kilometers in area and located near the solar disk center. Wavelet analysis reveals full-width half-maximum oscillations with periodicities ranging from 126 to...

Are there Alfvén waves in the solar atmosphere?

The Sun's outer coronal layer exists at a temperature of millions of kelvins, much hotter than the solar surface we observe. How this high temperature is maintained and what energy sources are involved continue to puzzle and fascinate solar researchers. Recently, the Hinode spacecraft was launched to observe and measure the plasma properties of the Sun's outer layers. The data collected by Hino...

High-frequency Waves Detected in the Solar Atmosphere

A spectrum of weakly guided waves in the solar atmosphere at frequencies as high as 100 mHz (10 s period) has been detected with high-cadence solar image sequences from the Transition Region and Coronal Explorer (TRACE) spacecraft. The waves are visible in the TRACE 1600 far-UV passband and were detected as faint Å ridges in an energy spectrum produced by Fourier transformation of subfields of ...
